The Eternal God (4/30)

Thought from today’s Bible reading from Psalm 102-104.

Of old You founded the earth, and the heavens are the work of Your hands. Even they will perish, but You will endure; and all of them will wear out like a garment; like clothing You will change them and they will be changed.

But You are the same, and Your years will not come to an end. The children of Your servants will continue, and their descendants will be established before You” (Psalm 102:25-28).

This brief passage reminds us of some important lessons about this world, our God, and our hope.

  1. This world was created by God. Yet the natural world is not advancing through evolution, but is wearing out and will eventually perish. One day this world will end – not by the work of  man, but by the will and action of God.
  2. God is eternal. He existed before the world was established. He has power over the natural world and will one day bring it do an end. Yet God’s existence will never come to an end.
  3. If the natural world is temporary and God is eternal, then it stands to reason that if we hope to live eternally then we must put our trust in God. This is the psalmist’s point at the end. By following God we can be established before Him.

While there are many things to enjoy in this life, our existence here is only temporary. This world will not stand forever. Therefore, “Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth” (Colossians 3:2).
