Thought from today’s Bible reading from Psalm 134, 146-150.
“Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord from the heavens; praise Him in the heights! Praise Him, all His angels; praise Him, all His hosts! Praise Him, sun and moon; praise Him, all stars of light! Praise Him, highest heavens, and the waters that are above the heavens!
“Let them praise the name of the Lord, for He commanded and they were created. He has also established them forever and ever; He has made a decree which will not pass away” (Psalm 148:1-6).
There are many reasons to praise the Lord. The passage above addresses two – His work in creation and His providence.
Creation – The psalmist reminds us of the fact that God spoke this world into existence. His great power is clearly seen in that He created something, or rather everything, from nothing. Man has been able to create many impressive things, but nothing that can compare with what God created. This is especially true when you realize that everything that man has accomplished, he did so using those resources that God created.
Providence – God did not just create the heavens and the earth. He has also established this world so that it is governed by certain natural laws – laws which He put in place from the beginning – that allow life to continue. These natural laws and abundant provisions that are found in the world will be here as long as the earth stands.
Praise the Lord for His power and wisdom displayed in Creation and for His kindness shown in His continued providence.
