Chronological Bible Reading Plan

As Paul explained to Timothy, the Scriptures have been given to us by God and they equip us to do those works that are pleasing to Him (2 Timothy 3:16-17). Therefore, it is essential that we know what has been revealed in the word of God so that we can carry out His will. One of the ways we gain knowledge of God’s word is through reading. When we “read [we] can understand  (Ephesians 3:4). Therefore, we are to “give attention to…reading” (1 Timothy 4:13).

When it comes to reading the Bible, it is vital that we make it a habit. In order to help establish this as a regular practice, many people follow some Bible reading plan. Our chronological Bible reading plan is broken up into four quarters (13 weeks each) and goes through the Bible chronologically. There are a couple of advantages to this plan:

  • Five days per week – Because the plan is based upon a 5-day per week schedule, there are “catch-up” days each week in case unforeseen events happen or one’s reading/study time for a particular day must be devoted to other passages of Scripture.
  • Chronological reading schedule – Seeing how the history of the kings corresponds to the messages of the prophets, or how the events in the book of Acts are connected to the epistles, can be very effective in helping Bible students get a clearer picture of how the various parts of the Bible fit together.

I hope this schedule will help you develop and maintain a regular habit of Bible reading and that the time you spend with the word of God will enable you to deepen your understanding, grow in your faith, and live in a way that is pleasing to Him.
