Read Through the Bible in 2010

The new year is upon us. Many people are making resolutions. A good number of them will be making the resolution to spend more time studying the Bible or even to read through the Bible. If that’s what you’ve decided to do (and it is certainly a worthwhile exercise), here are a few resources online that can help you.

Bible Gateway Reading Plans – I just found out about this and am looking forward to using it this year. This site has several reading schedules – beginning to end, chronological, and more. You can visit their site each day to find the reading for that day, or you can subscribe to the RSS feed for your schedule and view it everyday in your feed reader. Bible Gateway has many different versions of the Bible online, so most likely you’ll be able to read through the Bible online using your preferred version.

Five Day Bible Reading Schedule – Don’t worry. This isn’t a plan that would have you read through the entire Bible in five days. Instead, it breaks up the Bible so that you’re reading five days a week instead of seven. The advantage to this is that you have two make-up days each week so that if something happens and you can’t read the scheduled reading one day, you can easily make it up without falling behind. If you follow the link, you will find the link to the schedule in PDF format at the bottom of the page.

Give Attention to Reading – I’ve mentioned this site before. Edwin Crozier has developed a reading plan to go through the New Testament in six months (reading just two chapters a day, five days a week). On most days he also posts a brief article about something in that day’s reading.

I’m sure there are other reading plans and schedules online, but these will get you started. Something that all of these plans have in common is that they are free. If one of these will help you keep up with reading the Bible, I would encourage you to use it. Bible study is an important and worthwhile endeavor. The more we know about God and His will, the better equipped we’ll be to serve Him and spread His message to others.
