Through Many Tribulations: Conclusion

Through Many Tribulations

As we have studied in these lessons, there are several different kinds of trials and tribulations that we will have to endure during this life. Some of these will come upon us because we are Christians. Others will come simply because we are human. Yet all of these present challenges to our faith.

The reason why Christians can be derailed by tribulations is because they are accompanied with temptations to sin.

  • When we experience loss, we can be tempted to become bitter and blame God.
  • When we suffer hardship, we can be tempted to be envious of others who seem to have a more prosperous and happy life than we do.
  • When we are faced with making sacrifices for the Lord, we can be tempted pursue material things over spiritual things.
  • When we are met with persecution, we can be tempted to deny our faith.

Each time we are tempted, it is important to remember the Lord’s promise:

No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it” (1 Corinthians 10:13).

No matter what temptation we are facing, there is a “way of escape.” We can overcome each temptation that is presented to us. The temptations we face are not unique. Others have been tempted as we are and some of them have overcome. In fact, we can look to Jesus who was “tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin” (Hebrews 4:15). He is our perfect example who has shown us in His life how to endure every sort of trial and not give in to the temptation to sin (1 Peter 2:21-23).

As we look forward to the reward of an entrance into the eternal kingdom, we need to recognize that we must go “through many tribulations” to get there (Acts 14:22). If we look to God’s promises and the examples of those who have also endured, we can overcome every obstacle on our way to heaven.
