Social Issues: Introduction

Social Issues

Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people” (Proverbs 14:34).

There are many challenging issues facing us in our society. As Christians, we need to be aware of these issues, understand what the Bible teaches concerning them, know how to face them, and learn how we can respond to them in order to lead people to the truth.

Over the course of this study, we will discuss the following issues:

  1. Abortion
  2. Homosexuality
  3. Transgenderism
  4. Gender roles
  5. Racism
  6. Drug Abuse
  7. Atheism/humanism
  8. Nationalism
  9. Socialism
  10. Technology
  11. Social media
  12. Busyness
  13. Materialism

Sin has always infected human society and will always be around. While the specific sinful behaviors and attitudes may rise and fall in popularity, the responsibility that God’s people have is the same. We need to take heed to the admonition given by Paul to the church in Philippi:

Prove yourselves to be blameless and innocent, children of God above reproach in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you appear as lights in the world, holding fast the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I will have reason to glory because I did not run in vain nor toil in vain” (Philippians 2:15-16).

As we go through this study, my hope is that we might become better prepared to be the lights that the Lord has called us to be so that we can help lead people out of sin and into the paths of righteousness.

New articles in this series will be posted on Monday over the next several weeks. If you are not already on the mailing list for the Plain Bible Teaching Weekly Newsletter, either subscribe here or sign up below and you can keep up with these lessons that way.
