Thought from today’s Bible reading from Psalm 89, 96, 100-101, 105, 132.
“Shout joyfully to the Lord, all the earth. Serve the Lord with gladness; come before Him with joyful singing.
“Know that the Lord Himself is God; it is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; we are His people and the sheep of His pasture.
“Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise. Give thanks to Him, bless His name. For the Lord is good; His lovingkindness is everlasting and His faithfulness to all generations” (Psalm 100:1-5).
All people are to worship and praise the Lord. This invitation to come and glorify God was not just for the nation of Israel, but was for “all the earth.” In this short psalm, there are several reasons given as to why we ought to praise the Lord.
- “The Lord Himself is God.” He is the only true and living God.
- “It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves.” God is the Creator. Without Him we would not exist.
- “We are His people.” As His people, we are recipients of His care and providence.
- “We are … the sheep of His pasture.” He guides us, feeds us, and protects us.
- “The Lord is good.” There is no evil in God. His very nature is good.
- “His lovingkindness is everlasting.” As God is eternal, His lovingkindness is eternal. Therefore, as long as the earth stands, we can be assured of His continued blessings.
- “His faithfulness [is] to all generations.” His word and His promises will stand, no matter how much time passes.
Let us give thanks, honor, and praise to our God, for He is worthy!
