This week we’re talking about gratitude. With the Thanksgiving holiday, we are reminded to reflect on the many reasons we have to be thankful. This episode is being released on Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving as a holiday is traditionally a time to spend with family and sharing a good food together. Shout Joyfully to the Lord

Man under the Northern Lights

Shout joyfully to the Lord, all the earth. Serve the Lord with gladness; come before Him with joyful singing. Know that the Lord Himself is God; it is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; we are His people and the sheep of His pasture. Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise. Give thanks to Him, bless His name. For the Lord is good; His lovingkindness is everlasting and His faithfulness to all generations” (Psalm 100:1-5).

This psalm begins with a universal call to praise God. It gives us some insight into how we offer praise to Him and describes some of the reasons why He is worthy of such praise.

Let us notice some of the things this psalm tells us about how and why we are to praise the Lord.Continue Reading

Plain Bible Teaching Podcast

This week’s episode is going to be a little bit different, though still somewhat related to the theme of “current events.” The day this episode is being released is Thanksgiving day here in the United States. Thanksgiving is a reminder to be thankful to God for the blessings that He has abundantly bestowed upon us in this life. No matter who we are, and no matter what time of year it is, we all have reasons to be thankful. Given the holiday, I thought it would be good to take advantage of the fact that thanksgiving is on the forefront of our minds and spend some time talking about the importance of thankfulness.Continue Reading

New Every Morning

Sunrise

This I recall to my mind, therefore I have hope. The Lord’s lovingkindnesses indeed never cease, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness. ‘The Lord is my portion,’ says my soul, ‘Therefore I have hope in Him’” (Lamentations 3:21-23).

We sometimes hear it said that each day is a gift. This is certainly true, yet we need to know why this is true. It is about more than the simple fact that we are still alive. Each day is a gift because of God and what He provides for us each day.

In the passage above, Jeremiah reflected upon the goodness of God even as he and the nation were going through severe suffering (hence the name of the book Lamentations). There was still evidence of God’s care for them and a reason to have hope if they would focus on Him more than their present troubles.Continue Reading

How Can We Give Thanks During a Pandemic? (Episode 19)

Plain Bible Teaching Podcast

The question we’ll be considering in this episode is this:

How can we give thanks during a pandemic?

While we should give thanks to God at ALL times, there is a particular emphasis on gratitude during the Thanksgiving season. Therefore, it is good to use it as a reminder of our need to be thankful. However, this has been a difficult year for a lot of people – health concerns, deaths of loved ones, job losses, isolation, strained relationships, and uncertainty about the future. Who knows when things will ever get “back to normal”? It is easy to let ourselves be distracted by these things – yet we can and should continue to give thanks to God. That’s what we’ll talk about in this episode.

Thankful: Conclusion

Thankful

Over the last few weeks, we have considered some reasons why we are to be thankful to God. We are to give thanks for His word because it shows us the way of salvation and what we should do to please Him. We are to show gratitude for the blessings that we receive in this life that have been provided to us by God. We must be thankful for God’s mercy which allows us the opportunity to be forgiven of our sins and have fellowship with Him. We also ought to always be grateful for the hope that we have through Christ that allows us to look forward to an eternal reward in heaven.Continue Reading
