"The Lord Gave Israel All the Land Which He Had Sworn to Give" (3/28)

Thought from today’s Bible reading from Joshua 19-21.

After the land of Canaan was divided among the tribes of Israel, a concluding statement is made about the certainty of God’s promises.

So the Lord gave Israel all the land which He had sworn to give to their fathers, and they possessed it and lived in it. And the Lord gave them rest on every side, according to all that He had sworn to their fathers, and no one of all their enemies stood before them; the Lord gave all their enemies into their hand. Not one of the good promises which the Lord had made to the house of Israel failed; all came to pass” (Joshua 21:43-45).

God made the promise to Abraham that his descendants would inherit the land of Canaan (Genesis 17:8). This passage shows us that God’s promise was fulfilled.

We can trust in God and in His promises. Though the Israelites doubted, God brought them into the land. In the same way, we can trust in God and be assured of His promises to us in heaven.

In the same way God, desiring even more to show to the heirs of the promise the unchangeableness of His purpose, interposed with an oath, so that by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have taken refuge would have strong encouragement to take hold of the hope set before us. This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, a hope both sure and steadfast and one which enters within the veil” (Hebrews 6:17-19).

If we will faithfully serve God, we can receive the promised reward. We do not need to doubt God’s intentions or His power to deliver. “He is able to save forever those who draw near to God through Him” (Hebrews 7:25).

Trust in God and follow Him in all things.
