Thought from today’s Bible reading from Exodus 28-29.
Amidst the detailed instructions regarding the pattern for the tabernacle, its furnishings, the priests, and the sacrifices, God reminds the people why they were to obey.
“I will dwell among the sons of Israel and will be their God. They shall know that I am the Lord their God who brought them out of the land of Egypt, that I might dwell among them; I am the Lord their God” (Exodus 29:45-46).
Why were they to follow the instructions? The instructions came from the Lord their God.
The divine source of the instructions was reason enough for the people to obey. The instructions did not have to be convenient. They did not have to be approved by a majority vote. Furthermore, they were not mere suggestions. The people were obligated to follow the instructions, and the fact that God said so was a sufficient explanation.
We have a similar obligation to obey the Lord today (Matthew 28:20; Colossians 3:17). Neither personal convenience nor majority opinion should factor into the matter. Because the Lord is God we must accept His word in faith and obey His instructions.
Tomorrow’s reading: Exodus 30-32
