Plain Bible Teaching Podcast

This episode is our monthly news roundup for July. In this episode, we’re talking about a university where 40% of the students identify as LGBTQ, how men are “less satisfied” when women are the breadwinners in their home, and countries where the younger generation is more likely to believe in God than the older generation.

STORY #1 – Forty Percent of Brown University Students Say They Are LGBT, Suggesting Social Contagion

“New survey data from Brown University’s student newspaper provides further evidence that the increase in LGBT identification is driven by social pressures.

“The latest data show that between 2010 and 2023, identification as LGBTQ+ has almost tripled among the student body at Brown (from 14% in 2010 saying they were not heterosexual to 38% now). ‘The Herald’s Spring 2023 poll found that 38% of students do not identify as straight — over five times the national rate,’ The Brown Daily Herald reported. ‘Over the past decade, LGBTQ+ identification has increased across the nation, with especially sharp growth at Brown.’

“Other sexual orientations have seen massive increases. ‘Since Fall 2010, Brown’s LGBTQ+ population has expanded considerably. The gay or lesbian population has increased by 26% and the percentage of students identifying as bisexual has increased by 232%,’ the student newspaper reported. ‘Students identifying as other sexual orientations within the LGBTQ+ community have increased by 793%.’” (Washington Examiner)

STORY #2 – Men ‘Less Satisfied with Life’ When Women Are the Breadwinners in the Relationship

“For decades, cultural stereotypes have depicted working men as the family ‘breadwinners’; while women largely stayed at home. Fast forward to today, and these antiquated notions have largely faded away in favor of more inclusive business practices. However, new research suggests many out-of-work men are struggling to cope when their female partner is the sole earner in the relationship.

“Scientists at the University of Bath found that men report lower levels of well-being when women are the sole income earner in the relationship. If the man is the sole breadwinner, or both members of a heterosexual relationship have a job, however, men have higher levels of well-being.” (Study Finds)

STORY #3 – Countries with Fewer Baby Boomers Who Believe in God Often Have More Gen Zers Who Do

“Countries with fewer baby boomers who believe in God are more likely to have more Gen Zers who do, according to a recent survey.

“The survey from Ipsos Global Advisor found that among 20,000 adults from across 26 countries, members of Gen Z make up for countries where fewer Baby Boomers believe.

“Nine countries surveyed boasted members of Generation Z who were more likely to believe in God than baby boomers, Christianity Today reports.” (Christian Headlines)
