What Would Jesus Do? (Season 4, Episode 7)

What would Jesus do? This is a question that many religious people ask themselves when they attempt to decide if a particular decision or activity is right. Their intentions might be good – trying to focus on Jesus and please Him. However, this question is the wrong question!

Why is this the wrong question? It is too subjective. It turns our responsibility into nothing more than what we think Jesus would do in a given situation. Instead of asking a subjective question like this (What would Jesus do?), we should ask questions for which we can find objective and definitive answers from the Scriptures. So in this episode, we’re going to consider four different questions.

Christ Is the End of the Law (Season 4, Episode 6)

Despite the fact that the Jews – in large part – rejected the gospel, Paul’s prayer was that they might be saved (Romans 10:1). But in order to be saved, they needed to understand Christ and His relationship to the Law of Moses. “For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes” (Romans 10:4). Jesus came for the purpose of being “the end of the law.” What does this mean? Many of the Jews did not understand this and, as a result, were not saved through the gospel. In this episode, we will notice what it means for Christ to be “the end of the law.

What Was Said About Jesus on the Cross (Season 4, Episode 5)

Jesus’ death on the cross is the central event of the Bible. It is the sacrifice that made forgiveness, redemption, and salvation possible for all mankind. Jesus foretold of His death – “From that time Jesus began to show His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised up on the third day” (Matthew 16:21). The Scriptures prophesied of this event (Psalm 22; Isaiah 53). Sufficient evidence has been provided to produce belief. In addition to all the divinely given evidence, the gospel writers also record comments from some uninspired men as they speak about Jesus and His crucifixion. It is interesting to see what others understood about Him, even some without the benefit of Old Testament teaching. So in this episode, we’re going to look at the comments made about Jesus from four different individuals or groups.

The Priesthood of Christ (Season 4, Episode 4)

The Priesthood of Christ (Season 4, Episode 4)

The writer of the book of Hebrews repeatedly spoke of things under the law of Christ as being better than those under the Law of Moses. With Christ, we have a better hope (Hebrews 6:19-20; 7:19), better covenant (Hebrews 7:22; 8:6), better promises (Hebrews 8:6), and a better sacrifice (Hebrews 9:23-28). The writer told his audience, “Consider Jesus, the Apostle and High Priest of our confession” (Hebrews 3:1). The role of the high priest was to offer sacrifices for sins (Hebrews 5:1) and be an intercessor between God and man (Hebrews 7:24-25). The nature of Christ’s priesthood is one of the things that is better under the new law. In this episode, let us consider the priesthood of Christ.

Jesus: The Great Debater (Season 4, Episode 3)

One aspect about Jesus that is often ignored is His ability to debate. There is probably a reason for this. To say that religious debates are not popular in our time is an understatement. Yet the ability to debate is a valuable skill for those who would endeavor to teach the gospel to others. Jesus was so effective that Luke recorded four occasions in just one chapter (Luke 20) in which Jesus silenced His opponents. He did so by presenting arguments that could not be combated.

When Jesus silenced His opponents four times in Luke 20, He was able to do so without turning the common people against Him. “And they could not find anything that they might do, for all the people were hanging on to every word He said” (Luke 19:48). This was before the debates in chapter 20. Then after the debates, Luke records: “And all the people would get up early in the morning to come to Him in the temple to listen to Him” (Luke 21:38). We must develop our abilities to confound our opponents while also persuading the people. In order to help us do this, we’re going to consider how Jesus silenced His opponents. So in this episode, we’re going to discuss the four things Jesus did as He debated with those who opposed the truth.

How Jesus Became Like Us (Season 4, Episode 2)

Jesus came to earth in order to save man from sin (Matthew 1:21; Luke 19:10). This was God’s plan from the beginning (Ephesians 3:11) and was put in motion shortly after sin entered the world (Genesis 3:15). In order to save us, Jesus first had to be made like us: “Therefore, He had to be made like His brethren in all things, so that He might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people” (Hebrews 2:17). How was Jesus made like us? Completely? Or was there some sense in which He already like us? This is what we will discuss in this episode.
