Entrust These to Faithful Men (Season 9, Episode 8)

In this season, we’re discussing some lessons from Paul’s letters to Timothy and Titus.

When Paul wrote his second letter to Timothy, the time of his death was at hand (2 Timothy 4:6). Yet he provided a plan that would allow the gospel to be spread long after he was gone: “The things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also” (2 Timothy 2:2). This plan is still just as effective today as it was then.

Retain the Standard (Season 9, Episode 7)

In this season, we’re discussing some lessons from Paul’s letters to Timothy and Titus.

Hold fast the pattern of sound words” (2 Timothy 1:13, NKJV). This was Paul’s instruction to a young evangelist. Like most other instructions we read in the New Testament, it is just as applicable to us today as it was to Timothy in the first century. But not all of these instructions are emphasized much today. It is not common to hear a denominational preacher talk about the New Testament pattern. There are some in the Lord’s church who do not like to talk about it much either.

In fact, if you emphasize the pattern, some will label you as a legalist or a Pharisee. But we know we must follow the pattern because that is what Paul told Timothy to do. So let us see what the Bible says about holding fast the pattern.

The Church Must Not Be Burdened (Season 9, Episode 5)

In this season, we’re discussing some lessons from Paul’s letters to Timothy and Titus.

Paul told Timothy, “If any man or woman that believeth have widows, let them relieve them, and let not the church be charged; that it may relieve them that are widows indeed” (1 Timothy 5:16, KJV). This verse comes at the end of a section dealing with the care of certain widows. Paul had given Timothy instructions about which widows were to receive continual, ongoing support from the local church and which ones were not. In the case of widows who had family to care for them, the church was not to be charged with their care.

The idea of the church not being charged with something can certainly extend in application beyond just the care of certain widows.

Being a Good Minister (Season 9, Episode 4)

In this season, we’re going to be discussing some lessons from Paul’s letters to Timothy and Titus.

There are many different ideas people have about how to be a good minister. Some of these may provide some wisdom, but they cannot replace the Bible. If we want to know how to do the best job we can in carrying out the work of a preacher, we need to remember the instructions that Paul gave to Timothy – particularly what he said about putting the brethren in remembrance.

The Pillar and Support of the Truth (Season 9, Episode 3)

In this season, we’re discussing some lessons from Paul’s letters to Timothy and Titus.

“Church” has come to mean so many different things to different people. Yet Paul described the church as “the pillar and support of the truth” (1 Timothy 3:15). Understanding this is critical because everything the church is to be doing is based upon this fact.

In this season, we’re going to be discussing some lessons from Paul’s letters to Timothy and Titus.

Most Christians recognize the need to pray for our leaders. But why are we to do so?
