A Woman Caught in Adultery (Season 6, Episode 6)

On one occasion when Jesus was in the temple, the scribes and Pharisees brought a woman before Him who had allegedly been caught in the act of adultery (John 8:1-11). It is an interesting account, and some have tried to use it to argue that we should not try to strictly follow God’s word. But as we examine the passage, we can see that Jesus teaches just the opposite – we must be careful and diligent to follow what God’s word teaches.

Judge with Righteous Judgment (Season 6, Episode 5)

When it comes to what the Bible says about judging, most people only think of Matthew 7:1 – “Do not judge…” They ignore the context and claim that Jesus is condemning all types of judging. However, Jesus taught that there are certain judgments we must make – “judge with righteous judgment” (John 7:24). What does this mean? How can we make these judgments? We will consider these questions in this episode.

Words of Eternal Life (Season 6, Episode 4)

Public opinion can quickly change. This chapter in John’s gospel began with Jesus miraculously feeding five thousand people – and this number only included the men (John 6:1-13). As a result, the people concluded, “This is truly the Prophet who is to come into the world” (John 6:14). Believing this, they were ready “to come and take Him by force [and] make Him king” (John 6:15), even though this would require them to do battle against the powerful Roman army. But by the end of the chapter, all of them had left except for His twelve disciples (John 6:66-68).

Why did the crowd leave Jesus? There are at least two reasons that we will discuss in this episode.

Intending to Make Jesus King (Season 6, Episode 3)

Intending to Make Jesus King (Season 6, Episode 3)

Many religious people are looking forward to the time when Christ returns and establishes His kingdom here on the earth. The alleged reason why Jesus did not do this when He came the first time was because the people rejected Him and would not make Him their king. Therefore, since Jesus was rejected by His people, He ascended back to heaven, the church was established instead, and believers now look forward to the coming kingdom.

The problem with this the above theory is that it is not taught in the Bible. The following verse debunks the claim that Jesus could not establish His kingdom because the people rejected Him.

So Jesus, perceiving that they were intending to come and take Him by force to make Him king, withdrew again to the mountain by Himself alone” (John 6:15).

This episode discusses this passage and the nature of Christ’s kingdom.

Equal with God (Season 6, Episode 2)

Equal with God (Season 6, Episode 2)

But He answered them, ‘My Father is working until now, and I Myself am working.’ For this reason therefore the Jews were seeking all the more to kill Him, because He not only was breaking the Sabbath, but also was calling God His own Father, making Himself equal with God” (John 5:17-18).

Throughout the gospel of John, Jesus affirmed His deity and His equal status with the Father. This was one of the reasons why the rulers opposed Him. In this episode, we will consider several passages in the gospel of John that demonstrate the fact that Jesus was equal with the Father.

The Fields Are White for Harvest (Season 6, Episode 1)

The Fields Are White for Harvest (Season 6, Episode 1)

Do you not say, ‘There are yet four months, and then comes the harvest’? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look on the fields, that they are white for harvest” (John 4:35).

Jesus said these words to His disciples as they were in Samaria. He had just spoken to a Samaritan woman at the well outside the city. She returned and told the men of the city about Jesus and they were now coming out to see Him. He said the fields were white for harvest, meaning there was success to be had in preaching the gospel in that place.

In this episode, we are going to consider Jesus’ statement and the circumstances surrounding it. We will do so by asking four questions:

  1. What did Jesus see?
  2. What did the people need?
  3. Are the fields white for harvest today?
  4. What do people need today?
