Calling on the Name of the Lord (Season 7, Episode 7)

The Scriptures plainly teach that calling on the name of the Lord results in salvation. Nowhere is this affirmed more plainly than in Romans 10:13 – “For ‘Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved.’” I would imagine that the vast majority of professing Christians believes that we must call on the name of the Lord in order to be saved. The point in which we have controversy is how we call on His name.

Many believe this calling is done verbally. But what does the word of God teach?

Can One Earn His Salvation? (Season 7, Episode 6)

For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast” (Ephesians 2:8).

Often, when one teaches that obedience is necessary for salvation, he is accused of teaching that we earn our salvation. Passages like the one above are sometimes cited as “proof” that there is nothing we must do to be saved. But is it even possible for salvation to be earned? Is it possible to live in such a way that God owes us a home in heaven? We will discuss this idea in this episode.

Grace, Faith, Works (Season 7, Episode 5)

Grace, Faith, Works (Season 7, Episode 5)

For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them” (Ephesians 2:8-10).

Even though the topic of salvation is shown to be of fundamental importance in the Scriptures, there is sharp disagreement between brethren and the religious world about it – particularly about the role that grace, faith, and works play in our salvation. Many in the religious world believe that we are saved by grace through faith without any works on our part. In other words, they believe salvation is unconditional (unless they count faith as a condition, but that would be the only one). The passage above is often cited to defend this idea. Yet as we will see from the Scriptures, all three of these – grace, faith, and works – are necessary for our salvation.

What Must I Do to Be Saved? (Season 7, Episode 3)

This is the most important question one may ask. The answer to it is found in the gospel. If one wants to know what to do to be saved, he simply needs to look to the gospel and do what it teaches. Paul boldly affirmed, “I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek” (Romans 1:16).

“What must I do to be saved?” Our soul’s salvation depends upon us getting the right answer to this question and acting upon it. God has given us the answer in His word.

Four Contributors to Our Salvation (Season 7, Episode 2)

Peter wrote his first epistle to Christians that were scattered throughout Asia Minor. He addressed them as ones who were “chosen” (1 Peter 1:1). For what were they chosen? Salvation. They were “born again to a living hope” in order to “obtain an inheritance […] reserved in heaven” (1 Peter 1:3-4). They were waiting “for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time” (1 Peter 1:5).

How had these individuals been chosen? Peter said it was “according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, by the sanctifying work of the Spirit, to obey Jesus Christ and be sprinkled with His blood” (1 Peter 1:2). Here the apostle mentioned four contributors that make salvation possible for us. We’ll discuss each of these in this episode.

God's Plan for You (Season 7, Episode 1)

A favorite verse in the Bible for many is Jeremiah 29:11 – “‘For I know the plans that I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope.’

People often wonder what God’s plan is for their lives. This passage suggests that God knows these plans. Yet people want to know what the future holds so badly that they often run wild in speculation about every circumstance, decision, or consequence that exists in their lives, trying to determine some greater significance to these events.

know what God’s plan is for you. In this episode, we’re going to see how this plan has been revealed in the Bible.
