Vows and Tithes (Season 3, Episode 9)

The final chapter of Leviticus is sort of an appendix to the book. After concluding the major part of the book (Leviticus 26:46), additional information is given about gifts that individuals would give to the Lord. These would either be voluntary (vows) or mandatory (tithes). In this episode, we’re going to discuss the vows and tithes and see what applications can be made to the giving that we do today.

Obedience and Disobedience (Season 3, Episode 8)

Leviticus 26 contains the blessings for obedience and the punishments for disobedience. These were given in order to encourage the people to faithfully do what God instructed them to do. It is similar to the blessings and punishments given later in Deuteronomy 28. In this episode, we’re going to briefly look at what this chapter says about obedience and disobedience and see what applications we can make for our lives today.

Faith in God to Provide (Season 3, Episode 7)

The book of Leviticus contains many laws and regulations for the people to follow. However, their compliance with these laws was not just an act of submission to one in authority. In some cases, the obedience could only be done with complete faith and trust in God. In other words, it was not just about obeying God because He’s God, they were having to act in a way that was contrary to conventional wisdom and put their complete trust in God and rely upon Him.

In this episode, we’re going to look at two examples commands that could only be obeyed if they had complete faith in God to provide – the Sabbath year and the Year of Jubilee. After we consider these examples, we’re going to make some applications for us as we must also put our complete faith in God as well.

Weekly and Yearly Observances (Season 3, Episode 6)

Leviticus 23 addresses the various weekly and yearly observances given by God for the people. There are eight of these in this chapter – one weekly observance (the Sabbath day) and seven yearly observances. Each of these was for a different purpose. In this episode, we’re going to look at seven of these observances and see how the reminders for the Israelites are just as necessary for us. So let’s consider the weekly and yearly observances given in the book of Leviticus.

Atonement (Season 3, Episode 5)

Three weeks ago we discussed the five types of offerings found in the book of Leviticus. One of these was the sin offering. These were made periodically, whenever someone would sin unintentionally. However, there was also an annual day of atonement – the one time a year in which the high priest would enter the most holy place. In this episode, we’re going to discuss the day of atonement and how the sacrifices were a foreshadowing of the work of Christ.

Lessons from the Cleanliness Laws (Season 3, Episode 4)

The cleanliness laws given in the book of Leviticus served two purposes:

  1. To help keep the people from spreading disease and
  2. To make a distinction between the sons of Israel and the other nations.

In this episode, we’re going to provide a brief overview of the cleanliness laws. If you’re interested in studying these in more detail, they can be found in Leviticus 11-15. The laws about clean and unclean animals and other matters do not apply for us under the new covenant. Yet there are lessons we can learn that do apply to our lives as Christians today. We’re going to consider these lessons in this episode.
