Is Taking Time to Worship a Sign of Laziness? (Season 2, Episode 5)

It is not often you will hear religious people actually say something to this effect – that taking time to worship is a sign of laziness. However, many people choose their busy lives – particularly their work – over worship. The supposed “need” to be busy working trumps their real need to worship. There are many people today who cannot seem to take time away from their busy schedules to worship God or assemble with the saints. If there is work to be done, that takes priority in the minds of many. In this episode, we will see how worshiping God is not an act of laziness, but righteousness.

Not Getting Anything Out of the Assembly (Season 2, Episode 4)

Not Getting Anything Out of the Assembly (Season 2, Episode 4)

David expressed the attitude that we must have when it comes to assembling to worship the Lord – gladness. “I was glad when they said to me, ‘Let us go to the house of the Lord’” (Psalm 122:1). The assembly of the saints ought to be something to which we look forward. Unfortunately, many do not look forward to this time. But rather than acknowledging their own poor attitude and making efforts to change their mindset, they often attempt to shift the blame to others. They will say, “I’m not getting anything out of the assembly!” In their minds, this provides justification for them to complain, become sporadic in their attendance, or quit assembling altogether.

In this episode, we will focus on the attitude of one who claims to be getting nothing out of the assembly of the church. It is a dangerous attitude and we must guard ourselves against it.

Instrumental Music in Worship to God (Season 2, Episode 3)

One of the things that sets the Lord’s church apart from most churches of men has to do with the music used in worship. Most other churches use instruments in their music for worship. Faithful brethren have rightly opposed this for years. The practice, however, is certainly not going away. And there seems to be more and more in the church who see nothing wrong with the use of instruments in worship. Every so often it is necessary to remind brethren why we do not use instruments. To stop teaching on a topic can eventually lead to apostasy. In this episode, we will briefly examine why we do not use instrumental music in worship to God.

Tradition in Worship (Season 2, Episode 2)

Many of the things we do in worship are a matter of tradition. Some may be surprised by that admission. They hear of “traditions” being condemned in the Bible and think that all traditions must be wrong. But the fact is, not all traditions are condemned by God in His word. In fact, some are even required. There are basically three types of traditions. In this episode, we will consider each to help us see what sort of traditions are right and which are wrong.

  1. Traditions passed down by the apostles
  2. How we customarily do a thing
  3. Traditions of men

Worship in Spirit and Truth (Season 2, Episode 1)

When Jesus was speaking with the Samaritan woman by the well, He told her of the need to worship God in spirit and truth (John 4:24). In this episode, we will examine Jesus’ statement, as well as a parallel Old Testament passage (Joshua 24:14), to see how we can worship God acceptably today.

The Four C's of Effective Preaching (Season 1, Episode 9)

Any preacher who is diligently striving to “do the work of an evangelist” (2 Timothy 4:5) will want to carry out that work as effectively as possible. But how can one effectively preach the gospel of Christ? In this episode, we will consider four points explaining how this is done. These points are not based upon personal experience, human wisdom, or any sort of formal religious training. Rather, these points are taken directly from the word of God. If one wishes to preach the word of God effectively, he must learn how the Scriptures indicate that this is done.

  1. Be correct
  2. Be concise
  3. Be clear
  4. Be convincing
