This week we’re going to be talking about same-sex marriage. With it being “pride month,” I figured we ought to take at least one episode on the podcast to talk about something related to that. Last week Gallup came out with new statistics regarding the number of Americans who support same-sex marriage. In what should be no surprise to anyone, the percentage of people in our society who support same-sex marriage continues to increase. There are some lessons in this that we need to consider that go beyond simply what the Bible teaches about homosexuality. We’re going to consider some of these lessons today.Continue Reading

In this episode, we’re going to be talking about three different news stories that are all centered around a theme – the continuing efforts to normalize sexual immorality in our society. This is being done within the religious world and by those who are outside of it.Continue Reading

This is the last episode for the month of March. I plan to use the last episode of the month to highlight and briefly comment on some of the news stories from the last month that we haven’t discussed yet here. In this episode, we’ll be talking about the charge of Jesus being a racist, three men being named the legal parents of two children, and the discovery of more Dead Sea scrolls.Continue Reading

This week, we’re talking about an alarming study about the percentage among each generation who identify as LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender). Not surprisingly, the numbers are rising. But the dramatic shift upward should tell us something. It is also a reminder that we need to hold onto a Biblical world view – and teach our children to do the same – as our society rapidly moves in the opposite direction.Continue Reading

After missing last week, the podcast is back and we have three new stories to discuss. The first discusses the complex connection between religion and mental health. Then we talk about the shifting values in what has traditionally been seen as “wholesome, family-friendly” entertainment. We end with a conversation about how people view themselves as being religious and/or spiritual.Continue Reading
Homosexuality is a compound word that refers to the sexual relations between two people of the same sex (the Greek homo means same). This is in contrast with heterosexuality which involves two people of the opposite sex (the Greek hetero means other or different).
Those who argue in favor of homosexuality will often argue from the standpoint that those in these relationships “love” one another and since it is based upon love their behavior is not to be questioned; instead, it should be celebrated. Many who defend homosexuality claim that homosexuals are “born that way”; therefore, we cannot judge them. However, while the “born that way” argument is common, it is not as popular as it used to be. Why? First, it is simply not true. Second, it is too limiting. The argument was used initially to get more people to accept homosexuality. After it is more widely accepted, the argument can be dropped to get more people to experiment with homosexuality.Continue Reading
What does “propitiation” mean? How is “justification” connected to salvation? What does “sanctification” look like in our day-to-day lives? The Bible uses some powerful words to describe God’s plan to save mankind. However, these words are not always easy to understand, especially when they are not part of our everyday vocabulary. This book explores key Bible terms that unlock the message of the gospel.
Big Words in the Bible examines five important words – Propitiation, Reconciliation, Sanctification, Justification, and Resurrection – using plain language to see how the Scriptures describe these concepts and how the apostle Paul employs them in his letter to the Romans. This book also contains an appendix with eleven additional articles to explore these topics further.
Whether you are new to the Bible and want to grow in your understanding or want a simple way to explain these core gospel doctrines to others, this book will be helpful. With a focus on the Scriptures, Big Words in the Bible helps break down these fundamental topics to shed light on the life-changing message of the gospel and the salvation found in it.
