Plain Bible Teaching Podcast

With the events of the past year, many are wondering if we are living in the “end times.” Are we seeing signs that would indicate that the Lord’s return is imminent. We’ll consider how many religious leaders believe this and what the Bible teaches. In this episode, we’ll also talk about moral relativism and thoughts on abortion among young people.

STORY #1 – Vast Majority of Pastors See Signs of End Times in Current Events

“Almost 9 in 10 pastors see at least some current events matching those Jesus said would occur shortly before he returns to Earth, according to a new survey focused on Christian eschatology, or the study of end times.” (Lifeway Research)

STORY #2 – New Study Shows 74% of American Teens and Young Adults Embrace Moral Relativism

“According to a new report from the Barna Group in partnership with Impact 360 Institute, most teens and young adults subscribe to the philosophy of moral relativism, believing that many religions can lead to eternal life. The results found 65% of Americans ages 13-21 believe ‘many religions can lead to eternal life,’ a 7% increase since 2018. Researchers also found that 74% of that age group at least somewhat agreed with the idea that what is ‘morally right and wrong changes over time, based on society.’ Thirty-one percent of respondents strongly agreed with that statement, a jump of six points.” (Disrn)

Plain Bible Teaching Podcast

The big news in our country this week was the inauguration of a new President. Transitions like this remind us of the need to pray for those in authority. In this episode we’ll also discuss the first “abortion-free” state and the increase of persecution against Christians around the world.

STORY #1 – Missouri Is the First “Abortion-Free” State

“Missouri has become America’s first ‘abortion-free state,’ after all 45 abortion facilities in the state have closed or ceased performing abortions, according to a report from pro-life organization Operation Rescue: ‘Reproductive Health Services Planned Parenthood in St. Louis was the last abortion facility in Missouri,’ the report said. ‘It remains open, but Operation Rescue has confirmed that no abortion appointments have been available there for months, and none are available anytime in the foreseeable future. All abortion appointments are now being referred to the Fairview Heights Planned Parenthood facility across the Mississippi River in Illinois.’” (Disrn)

STORY #2 – List of the Most Dangerous Countries to Be a Follower of Jesus

“The watchdog organization Open Doors USA says levels of Christian persecution are at a record high around the world. Open Doors reports that levels of Christian persecution are at a record high, revealing that the number of Christians murdered for their faith rose 60 percent in 2020. […] Their latest data indicates one-in-eight Christians now suffer for their religious beliefs worldwide. […] The top 10 countries on the World Watch List include North Korea, Afghanistan, Somalia, Libya, Pakistan, Eritrea, Yemen, Iran, Nigeria, and India. Reasons for persecution range from communist oppression to Islamic oppression and Hindu nationalism. […] ‘The big surprise on the World Watch List 2021 is that extremists and governments are using COVID-19 as a justification to increase persecution against Christians and we see this in several places,’ [Open Doors USA’s CEO David Curry] told CBN News.” (CBN News)

Social Issues (Part 1): Abortion

Social Issues

Abortion is the procedure through which the life of a child in the womb is deliberately terminated. In other words, when an abortion is performed, an unborn child (a human being) is intentionally killed.

Those who argue in favor of abortion defend the practice as a woman’s “right to choose” (yet in most cases, it is really about avoiding the consequences of other choices). They contend that arguments or legislation against abortion are hostile toward women as they are to have a right to privacy (yet privacy should not be used to justify sin). They declare that they have authority over their own bodies (yet they deny the unborn child authority over his/her own body). They often (but not always) ignore or argue against the humanity of the unborn.Continue Reading

Abortion (Season 13, Episode 2)

In this season, we’re discussing social issues – problems that are facing our society and what the Bible has to say about these issues.

Those who argue in favor of abortion defend the practice as a woman’s “right to choose.” They contend that arguments or legislation against abortion are hostile toward women as they are to have a right to privacy and authority over their own bodies. Who Is to Blame for the Abortion Tragedy?

Ultrasound

Many who defend the practice of abortion attempt to classify it under the heading of “health care” or as “a woman’s right to choose.” The reality is that the practice of abortion is the act by which the life of a child in the womb is deliberately terminated. In other words, when an abortion is performed, an unborn child (a human being) is intentionally killed.

In our society, the issue about abortion has shifted away from the question about when life begins. If it does not matter when life begins, then it does not matter when an abortion occurs. This means one of two things:

  1. EITHER abortion is wrong at every stage of pregnancy (this is the pro-life position);
  2. OR abortion is acceptable at every stage of pregnancy, even up to the point of birth (this is now the pro-abortion position).

The Foundation for a Godly Society

Moses and the Ten CommandmentsThe Ten Commandments (Exodus 20:1-17) – the laws engraved onto stone which God delivered to Moses for the children of Israel – give us the blueprint for the foundation of any godly or righteous society. These Ten Commandments are regularly assaulted by those on the “left” as having no place in our government or our schools. The stated reason for their opposition is that the Ten Commandments represent a religious element that has no place in anything related to government. Yet the Ten Commandments represent more than just religion. The reason there is such strong opposition to the display of the Ten Commandments by the “left” is because the Ten Commandments stand in direct opposition to the Liberal’s ideal for society.

Many today view the Ten Commandments as part of the foundation of our religion. Yet they are part of the Old Law which was nailed to the cross (Colossians 2:14). Does this mean they are of no value for us today? Certainly not! But we must use them properly. The Old Testament was written and is preserved “for our instruction” (Romans 15:4). When we study the Ten Commandments, we find the foundations of a godly society.
