Being a Productive Christian

Watch

Therefore be careful how you walk, not as unwise men but as wise, making the most of your time, because the days are evil” (Ephesians 5:15-16).

There are many books, articles, and websites dedicated to the subject of productivity. People want to improve how they use their time and work more efficiently and effectively. While being productive is important in the realm of work and business, we should not limit it to those areas of our lives.

The Scriptures teach that we are to be productive in our spiritual lives. Though the word productivity is not used in the Bible, the concept is certainly discussed. In this article, we are going to see what the Bible says about how to be a productive Christian.Continue Reading

A Good Name

Proverbs 22:1

A good name is to be more desired than great wealth, favor is better than silver and gold” (Proverbs 22:1).

When Solomon talked about “a good name,” he was referring to one’s reputation. This word means “a mark or memorial of individuality; by implication…character” (Strong’s). It is that for which a person is known.

What are we known for? How important is it to have “a good name”? Let us consider these questions.

Who Knows?

Young man thinking

The Hebrew writer said, “It is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment” (Hebrews 9:27). This is the one thing in our future that is certain – death followed by judgment. Besides that, we cannot say with certainty what will happen in our future. James wrote, “You do not know what your life will be like tomorrow” (James 4:14). The wise man asked, “If no one knows what will happen, who can tell him when it will happen?” (Ecclesiastes 8:7).

Who knows what will happen in the future? None of us do. How then do we approach life with this kind of uncertainty? The Scriptures provide some lessons for us to consider. In this article, we will examine several passages that discuss uncertain futures. In each of them, the phrase “who knows” is used to express the fact that mere men could not know where the events would lead. We will consider the events that were happening and see what lessons we can learn from them.

What Did Not Exist in Eden

Garden of Eden

The Lord God planted a garden toward the east, in Eden; and there He placed the man whom He had formed” (Genesis 2:8).

When God created man, He created the perfect place for him to live – the Garden of Eden. Unfortunately, Adam and Eve would lose that home and the consequences of that would be felt by all people.

Why was the Garden of Eden the perfect place? It had to do with what did not exist there. In this article, we are going to look at what did not exist in Eden and the effects of these things being introduced into the world. We are also going to see how all of these problems are remedied in heaven.

Is Taking Time to Worship a Sign of Laziness? (Season 2, Episode 5)

It is not often you will hear religious people actually say something to this effect – that taking time to worship is a sign of laziness. However, many people choose their busy lives – particularly their work – over worship. The supposed “need” to be busy working trumps their real need to worship. There are many people today who cannot seem to take time away from their busy schedules to worship God or assemble with the saints. If there is work to be done, that takes priority in the minds of many. In this episode, we will see how worshiping God is not an act of laziness, but righteousness.

The Need for Godly Men

Man at Sunset

Over the last several years, our society has become more corrupt, immoral, confused, and dangerous. At the same time, feminism has attacked the role of men in society, homosexuality and same-sex “marriage” have perverted the role of men in the home, and transgenderism is now seeking to normalize the idea of men ceasing to be men. This is not a coincidence. The result of men not being men, particularly godly men, has had a direct impact upon the deterioration of our society.

Tent-Making Preachers (Season 1, Episode 6)

God’s design is that those who dedicate their lives to preaching the gospel receive full support for that work (1 Corinthians 9:14). However, one who preaches may not always (or ever) enjoy the blessing of such support. When a preacher receives only partial support – or even no support – for preaching the gospel, what is he to do? This episode discusses 8 instructions to the “tent-making preacher” as he serves the Lord in that capacity.

  1. Keep preaching.
  2. Work to support yourself.
  3. Make the most of your time.
  4. Manage your other responsibilities.
  5. Recognize your limitations.
  6. Avoid jealousy and bitterness.
  7. Give the brethren no cause to look down on your work.
  8. Fulfill your ministry.
