How does the Holy Spirit work in our lives today?

The Holy Spirit was sent from heaven to the apostles following the ascension of Christ. He played a vital role in the establishment of the church, beginning on the day of Pentecost. There are several things we can read the Holy Spirit doing in the New Testament, but does He still operate in the same way today? It is an important question for us to consider.

Can Christians Observe the Lord’s Supper Outside of the Assembly? (Episode 5)

The question we’ll discuss in this episode was submitted to me by several people this week:

Can Christians observe the Lord’s Supper outside of the assembly?

As of right now, the situation with the global pandemic caused by the Coronavirus has caused many local churches to suspend their assemblies. In their place, many churches have arranged to have “virtual” assemblies. Others have opted to gather in homes with just family members or small groups. In either case, many are continuing to observe the Lord’s Supper even though they are not in the regular assembly of the local church. Is this authorized? We’re going to consider what the New Testament has to say to address that question.

What Are Christians to Do in a Global Pandemic? (Episode 4)

The question we’ll be considering in this episode is a little bit different, as it will be related to current events:

What are Christians to do in a global pandemic?

At the last minute, I decided to postpone the previously planned episode and record this one instead. A lot of people are worried about the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19). In this episode, we discuss eight points for us to remember at this time:

Be wise (Matthew 10:16)
Be harmless (Matthew 10:16)
Be a good neighbor (Matthew 7:12)
Don’t forget to pray (Philippians 4:6-7)
Don’t be naive (Proverbs 14:15)
Don’t worry about tomorrow (Matthew 6:33-34)
Don’t live in fear (2 Timothy 1:7)
Live every day with a view to eternity (Colossians 3:1-2)

What Does the Bible Teach about Suicide? (Episode 3)

The question we’ll be considering in this episode was submitted in person from a member of the church were I preach:

What does the Bible teach about suicide?

Suicide is a growing problem in the United States. There is not a Bible passage that explicitly states that suicide is wrong or that states it is justified. Therefore, we need to consider certain principles to help us determine how we should view this. It is a sensitive topic, but we need to understand what the Bible says that relates to it.

Worrying Trends in U.S. Suicide Rates – The suicide rate increased by 33% from 1999 to 2017. It is the 10th leading cause of death in U.S. – 4th leading cause for age 35-54; 2nd for age 10-34.
Suicide Statistics – In 2018, 48,344 Americans died by suicide. In 2017, there were an estimated 1.4 million suicide attempts in the U.S.
