Alexander Campbell: “New Testamentism”

Alexander Campbell - New Testamentism

Alexander Campbell (1788-1866) is likely the most recognized figure among those associated with the Restoration Movement. The widespread influence he had from such an early period has led some to mistakenly conclude or falsely charge that Campbell was the founder of the church. It is not uncommon to hear the term “Campbellite” used to refer to members of the Lord’s church. However, Campbell did not institute a new religious system for people to follow. He simply wanted to point people back to the standard found in God’s word. Notice the following quote from Alexander Campbell:Continue Reading

The Plumb Line (Season 8, Episode 9)

God showed the prophet Amos three visions that warned about the coming judgment against Israel (Amos 7:1-9). After the first two visions, Amos protested, pleading for mercy on behalf of Israel. But after the third vision he did not. What was different about the third vision? Answering this question will provide a valuable lesson for us today.

"God Does Nothing Unless He Reveals His Secret Counsel" (Season 8, Episode 8)

When a calamity occurs, is God the one behind it? When a tragedy strikes, is God trying to send some sort of message? People wonder about these things all of the time. As a result, they spend many hours speculating, wondering, and worrying over some message from God that they assume must be interwoven in the events of their life. Characteristics of Truth (Season 8, Episode 7)

While it is important that we understand that the word of God is truth (John 17:17), it is also important that we appreciate various characteristics of truth. Certainly there are those who do not accept the Bible as truth; but of those who do (or claim that they do), many simply do not understand the nature of this truth. It is not whatever we want it to be. Truth is from the mind of God whose ways are infinitely higher than our own (Isaiah 55:8-9; 1 Corinthians 1:25). In this episode, we’re going to consider six characteristics of truth.

Is Divine Revelation Ongoing Today? (Season 8, Episode 6)

Paul told the Ephesians about the mystery he received by revelation (Ephesians 3:1-3). He was referring to divine revelation – a message that came from God. As an apostle (Ephesians 1:1), the Holy Spirit guided him “into all the truth” (John 16:13) so that he could say, “The things which I write to you are the Lord’s commandment” (1 Corinthians 14:37). Does this type of divine revelation still occur today? Many people claim to receive messages directly from heaven. But does God reveal His will directly to people today like He did with Paul and others? It is important that we know the answer to that question.
